Kunstfagligt inspirationsmøde 2017
Novo Nordisk Fondens Komite for Forskning i Kunst og Kunsthistorie inviterer til kunstfaglig inspirationsdag med Hans Belting.
Foredrag ved Professor Hans Belting: “History of the Face or History of the Portrait?
- Remarks on anthropology and art history”
The talk follows one of Hans Belting’s books which was published in German in 2013 and has now been published in English by Princeton University Press with a changed title: Face and Mask. A Double History. Art history sometimes restricts the topic of the face to the portrait which however has a predominantly European history. Belting’s suggestion is the following: While many cultures have the mask, western culture has in its place the portrait. The depiction of the face is predominantly an anthropological subject and is not restricted to the portrait, as the lecture will show. It is the aim to contrast the portrait and any other depiction of the face in an overarching survey.
Hans Belting is a renowned Professor in Art History and Media Theory. His publications include Faces: Eine Geschichte des Gesichts (2013), Florence and Baghdad: Renaissance Art and Arab Science (2011), Art History after Modernism (2003). He is also a member of various scientific academies in Germany and the U.S. and in 2015 he received the prestigious Balzan Prize.
