Kunstfagligt inspirationsmøde 2016
Novo Nordisk Fondens Udvalg for kunsthistorisk forskning inviterer til kunstfaglig inspirationsdag med Claire Bishop.
16:30 - 18:00 Foredrag med Claire Bishop, Professor, Contemporary Art, City University of New York: "Deja Vu: Contemporary Art and the Ghosts of Modernism"
One of the most persistent themes in contemporary art since the early 1990s has been the proliferation of work that addresses ‘ruined modernity’ and ‘failed utopias’: in other words, a type of art that reformats iconic examples of twentieth-century architecture and design into painting, sculpture, photography, video, slide shows, archival installations, etc. This lecture offers reasons for the rise of this tendency and a critique of its approach to history, and asks how we might imagine more politicized modes of engagement with twentieth-century modernism.
Claire Bishop is Professor of Contemporary Art at the City University of New York. Her publications include Radical Museology, or, What’s Contemporary in Museums of Contemporary Art? (2013), Artificial Hells: Participatory Art and the Politics of Spectatorship (2012) and “Antagonism and Relational
Aesthetics”, (2004). She is also a regular contributor to Artforum.
