2012 - Expansions of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability

The Novo Nordisk Foundation in May awards a further grant of DKK 280 million (€37.7 million) to the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability. The grant supports research on developing new mammalian cell lines for manufacturing biological pharmaceuticals. In addition, the Foundation in December awards DKK 131,25 (€17,6 million) to further internationalize the Center. Amongst other tings, this means that two of the world’s foremost names within research on industrial biotechnology will come to Denmark. On 1 January 2013, Sang Yup Lee, Professor at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), Daejeon, South Korea, and Jay Keasling, Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, USA, will join the Center, where each will establish a research group. The two new grants means that the Novo Nordisk Foundation now has awarded a total of more than DKK 1.1 billion (€148 million) to the Center.
