2012 - First two Laureate Research Grant recipients selected
Professors Stephen M. Cohen and Kenn Gerdes in December become the first to receive the Novo Nordisk Foundation Laureate Reseach Grants. The 7-year grants are of DKK 40 mio. (€5,3 million). The purpose of the grants is to further internationalize Danish biomedical and biotechnological research. The grants are awarded to outstanding researchers based outside of Denmark who want to establish their research groups in Denmark.
Both professors are employed at the University of Copenhagen.
Stephen M. Cohen arrives from Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Singapore. Amongst other scientific achievements during his career, he has made a major contribution to the understanding of how micro-RNA helps to control how cells grow and develop. Kenn Gerdes comes from Newcastle University. He has carried out pioneering research in persistence of bacterial infections.
