Apply for grants

Challenge programme 2026

For the application round of 2026, the Challenge Programme seeks to support outstanding research collaborations working within one of four selected themes. Up to DKK 600 million (EUR 80 million) will be awarded for grants of DKK 40 - 75 million (ca. EUR 5,4 - 10 million) for projects of 6 years duration.

Theme 1: Harnessing biology for climate-resilient and healthy soils

The specific challenge of this theme is to prevent further soil degradation and enable regeneration of healthy soils as a vital natural resource by deepening our fundamental understanding of how biological factors influence and interact with physiochemical and other properties of soil.

Theme 2. Unravelling the pathways of human invasive fungal diseases

The specific challenge of this theme is to understand the mechanisms of human invasive fungal infections such as virulence factors, host-pathogen interactions and antifungal resistance, with the aim of enabling the development of better diagnostics and treatments.

Theme 3: Modelling human cardiometabolic disease

The specific challenge of this theme is to develop novel translational models of human cardiometabolic disease to study the underlying mechanisms and improve preclinical testing.

Theme 4: Biological systems under non-equilibrium conditions

The specific challenge of this theme is to uncover the mechanisms that drive development, functionality, and self-organisation of biological systems under non-equilibrium conditions.
