The Committee executes the Foundation Board’s decision to award Challenge Programme grants, supporting research within annually selected themes.
In 2025 the theme is: Ectopic fat and cardiometabolic disease.
The challenge is to understand causal factors in the development and consequences of ectopic fat accumulation, identifying novel targets and precision medicine strategies in disease prevention and treatment with a human-centric point of departure.
The Board has allocated a total budget of DKK 360 million for the 2025 Challenge Programme, offering large grants of DKK 30-60 million each.
The Board appoints committee members from among international experts in the annual research theme, in accordance with the general rules covering the Foundation’s committees.
