World Diabetes Day: join us for a special event on early detection and prevention
This year’s World Diabetes Day theme is “early action on diabetes”, with the global campaign focused on early diagnosis and risk reduction. It’s a timely reminder of the scale of the challenge: 635 million adults worldwide are at high risk of type 2 diabetes, and up to half of those diagnosed with the condition already have complications by the time they find out.
To mark the day, Novo Nordisk Foundation is hosting an event, open to colleagues and external guests, exploring what early detection and prevention of type 2 diabetes could look like in Denmark.
Marie-Louise Hartoft-Nielsen, Vice President for Clinical Medicine & Diabetes, will open the afternoon. You will then hear from:
- Rasmus Wibæk Christensen (Researcher, Clinical Epidemiology, SDCC) on the burden of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in Denmark
- Anne Illemann Christensen (Research leader, National Institute of Public Health) on using national health data to direct diabetes prevention efforts locally
- Tanja Thybo (Head of Research, The Danish Diabetes Association) on the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of different screening methods for type 2 diabetes in Denmark
- Professor Daniel Witte (Professor, Aarhus University/SDCA) on the Novo Nordisk Foundation-funded DP-NEXT project, and whether it points to a new strategy for diabetes prevention in Denmark
The programme closes with a panel debate with all speakers, where you can put your own questions to them live via Slido or from the floor.
The Danish Diabetes Association will also be running a “test your risk of type 2 diabetes” activity at their booth, open from 13:30 before the talks begin, and again during Tapas & wine from 16:00.
