The Pioneer Innovator Grant is a stimulus fund established to accelerate commercialization of research findings and development of novel technologies within the health sciences.

The Pioneer Innovator Grant seeks to support research within Life Science (medtech, industrial biotech, or pharma) and to stimulate the evaluation of ideas that may lead to the development of new medical treatment, disease prevention, diagnostic methods as well as new health technologies and devices to benefit people and society.

Areas of support

The Grant seeks to support application-oriented research and to test ideas that may lead to the development of new medical treatments or health technologies, disease prevention, diagnostic methods, industrial biotech, or devices within Life Science.

For the Pioneer Innovator Grant the applicants can be faculty members, researchers and students based at universities, hospitals and other knowledge institutions in the Nordic countries. Projects from incubator development programs are also eligible.

Only a single Pioneer Innovator Grant is permitted for activities related to the same project, however selected projects may be extended and awarded a supplementary grant for specific commercialization activities.

Projects that have received pre-seed grants are not later eligible for Pioneer Innovator Grants.

The total grant budget is DKK 35 million. Each granted project can receive a grant of up to DKK 1 million for one year.

Application process

The application should be completed and submitted using the Foundation’s application system.

It is important to carefully read the “Information and guidelines for applicants”, accessed via “how to apply”, before initiating the application process, as this document contains the complete call, as well as detailed instructions for the application.
