The Monday night PI Pub facilitated interactions between young talents and senior experts. This is one aim for the Copenhagen Bioscience Conferences – to share ideas for mutual benefit.
Busses were arranged to Transport the participants between their hotel and the conference venue.
The social part of the program included a dinner at the Royal Copenhagen Opera, where the participants were surprised with Music and singing by the Royal Opera Tenor Gert Henning-Jensen.
This was the 6th conference in the Series of Copenhagen Bioscience Conferences. Two conferences are held each year.
The conference had an International atmosphere with 180 participants from 24 different countries.
No Neighbours. The venue was specifically reserved for the conference participants to have a relaxed, trusting and open atmosphere.
All speaker sessions had a Chair from the organizing center; the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research.
All Expenses were covered by the Novo Nordisk Foundation including conference fee, hotel, meals and transportation. Participants cover their own travel expenses to and from Copenhagen.
The conference participants Laughed a lot during the conference. One highlight was at the PI Pub, when a group of senior participants dressed up in costumes including a pink wig and Viking helmets.
The five centers in the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Center Cluster presented themselves on the first night of the conference as a team also employed at the largest Danish festival, Roskilde Festival, provided Lights and music to accompany the five center representatives on stage.
Speaker sessions. The conference saw a total of 33 talks from both professors and younger talents.
By having long breaks between the scientific session, two poster sessions, as well as mixed seating at the dinner tables, the organizers had left plenty of room for networking and Interaction.
Gender. Approximately 40% of the participants were women.
The kitchen at Favrholm provided the participants with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as refreshments from their own interpretation of the New Nordic Kitchen.
All conference participants were selected in open competition based on scientific accomplishment. The Application procedure is meant to ensure a high level of scientific excellence during the conference.
During Leisure time the participants could enjoy an exercise in the fitness room, relax in the meeting rooms, or ride a bike.
A poster prize was awarded to the two best posters within the categories PhD and Postdoc. The Innovative winners were Maxim A.X. Tollenaere from the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, Denmark and Marjorie L. Fournier from IGBMC, France.
The conference series is an initiative of The Novo Nordisk Foundation, an independent Danish Foundation with corporate interests. The Foundation’s objectives are: to provide a stable basis for the commercial and research activities of the companies in the Novo Group; and to support scientific, humanitarian and social causes.
Geography. The venue for the conference was Favrholm Campus approx. 35 km north of Copenhagen.
