The Novo Nordisk Foundation is pleased to announce the release of its 10th annual Impact Report. The report documents the Foundation’s impact on our society.
Among the key results, the Impact Report shows that 8,877 people in scientific and research hospital activities (55% men and 45% women) have been fully or partly financed by Novo Nordisk Foundation’s grants in 2023.
Of the scientific personnel, 3,740 were PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, up from 2,400 in 2019.
The number of scientific publications supported by these grants has quadrupled from 1,500 to 6,000 over the past ten years.
The report also shows that as the Foundation has grown, so has the diversity in supported funding areas. 10 years ago, 25-30% of the foundation’s total donations were directed towards diabetes. Today, this figure has adjusted to 8%. This shift illustrates the foundation’s strategic reallocation towards broadening its scope.
Moreover, the Foundation’s funding has facilitated the establishment of 23 new companies alone in 2023 compared to only a small handful in 2014.
Thomas Alslev Christensen, Senior Vice President of Impact, explains: “The 2023 Impact Report also sets the stage for future initiatives in the way the foundation works with new initiatives through the use of theory of change and the systematic collection of data from grantees. It is a testament to the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s commitment to making a significant scientific and broader societal impact on public health, sustainable development and the condition on the planet.”
