Novo Nordisk Foundation Prize For Interdisciplinary Science Teachers at Universities 2025

Novo Nordisk Foundation Prize For Interdisciplinary Science Teachers at Universities - 2025

Liza and Nathalia are lecturers at the University of Copenhagen, where they, along with their research group “One Health & Sustainability,” have developed interdisciplinary teaching programmes on sustainability and green transition. The One Health approach seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of humans, animals, and the environment through innovative, cross-sectoral, and systematic development.

Their work is based on the research project “Cattle Crossroads,” where they investigate the possibilities of downsizing intensive livestock production. The teaching is intense, but Liza and Nathalia have adapted the lessons and engage with students at eye level to create a learning environment where complex topics and new perspectives become exciting.

The team employs innovative didactic and pedagogical approaches, including project pedagogy and problem-based learning. The students actively participate in excursions and seminars, where they learn to combine qualitative and quantitative methods. This enhances the learning value and provides them with a deeper understanding of sustainability-related topics.

With the award, Liza and Nathalia are honoured for their outstanding and unique interdisciplinary efforts, their innovative use of student feedback, and their ability to forge connections between universities, secondary schools, and primary schools.
