BioInnovation Institute Foundation – helping life science start-ups bring research to market
Research ideas often fail to mature into products and solutions that reach market due to a lack of suitable facilities, experienced personnel and access to finance. To address this, the Foundation established the life science incubator BioInnovation Institute (BII) in 2017, with the purpose of advancing research, innovation and entrepreneurship within the life sciences.
BII offers early-stage funding, business development support, lab- and office infrastructure as well as providing a global network to start-ups in its portfolio. The aim is to help the entrepreneurs develop and mature their research projects to the point where they can attract crucial capital investment and thus contribute to the development of new solutions within bioindustrials, health-tech and therapeutics.
In 2021, the BioInnovation Institute became an independent commercial foundation with a none-profit objective. While the Novo Nordisk Foundation maintains an active interest, this opens up for other organisations and foundations to take part in the long-term financing. At the same time, BII receives more and more applications from international start-ups, attracting life science entrepreneurial talent to Denmark.
