Novo Nordisk Foundation Awards DKK 25 Million for Two Professorships in Protein Research

The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded a grant of DKK 25 million for establishing two professorships in protein research at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) at the Technical University of Denmark.

The aim of establishing the two professorships is to further strengthen research and education in applied protein science and technology at DTU Bioengineering. The grant will cover the appointment of two professors of an international calibre in next-level enzymology and protein biophysics, respectively.

“These appointments are a major step in our efforts to educate future engineers specializing in applied protein science and technology to benefit many food, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in Denmark,” says Bjarke Bak, Head of Department, DTU Bioengineering.

The grant will also contribute to catalysing new interdisciplinary collaboration in protein research between the departments that together comprise the life sciences and bioengineering at the Technical University of Denmark.

Strengthening research and education in proteins is one aspect of the overall strategy of DTU Bioengineering of creating close collaboration with industry, since these two professors are expected to form a strong research environment with an overarching focus on protein functionality and with a strong industrial biotechnology perspective.
