In 2025, the Novo Nordisk Foundation commissioned an analysis of the regenerative medicine landscape in Europe.
Aware of both the huge potential for the development of regenerative therapies within Europe and the significant roadblocks, the Foundation saw a need for an in-depth analysis of the current situation, the gaps, and the opportunities.
The analysis showed that coordinated action is needed in four areas:
- A stronger focus on existing hubs where the science is already strong
- Earlier attention to commercial viability
- Improved efficiency through shared infrastructure
- Prioritisation of projects with the greatest potential for impact
Together, these actions can help create the “trigger moments” the field needs – major clinical and commercial successes that help restore confidence and attract investment.
The analysis was carried out by Catenion, a biopharma strategy consultancy, in close collaboration with the Foundation.
