With the Campus Kalundborg initiative, industry, the municipality and educational partners have joined forces to make the Biotech city of Kalundborg an internationally leading hub for education, research and innovation within biomanufacturing and biosolutions.
A new campus building will include a pilot plant, new laboratories and co-creation spaces, providing the facilities needed to conduct cutting-edge teaching, research and development. The campus settings will create a unique educational environment where students attending a broad range of academic, vocational and professional programmes can collaborate across disciplines while gaining real-world experience through close interaction with industry professionals.
The overall success criterion for the campus is to increase the local student population from approx. 500 students today to 1,500 by 2030, including a significant international student population.
The new initiative has been developed in collaboration between the following partners: University College Absalon, University of Copenhagen, Technical University of Denmark, Teknika, Nordvestsjællands Erhvervs- og Gymnasieuddannelser (NEG), Royal Danish Academy, Helix Lab, Knowledge Hub Zealand, Novo Nordisk, Novonesis, Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Municipality of Kalundborg. AP Pension will build and own the new buildings and Novo Nordisk will cover a large fraction of the rent for the duration of the initiative.
Novo Nordisk A/S and the Novo Nordisk Foundation have jointly committed DKK 322 million for the development of Campus Kalundborg. The Foundation’s contribution of up to DKK 202 million over a seven-year period will go towards the establishment of new teaching infrastructure, the enhancement of collaborative activities regarding recruitment and teaching, and strengthening the collaboration with local industry for education and continuing education.
