CAPTURE is a seven-year nationwide research project aiming to generate new knowledge about heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), a complex and widespread condition affecting millions of people worldwide.

The project is anchored at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital and involves hospitals and researchers from all five Danish regions. By using cutting-edge technology for deep phenotyping in combination with innovative ways of reaching individuals with early stages of HFpEF, CAPTURE aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms of the disease and revolutionise how we identify, understand and treat HFpEF in the future.

By using Danish health data registries, the researchers will identify individuals with risk factors for HFpEF. Among these, a number of individuals between 50 and 90 years of age will receive a questionnaire that will help identify individuals with possible symptoms of HFpEF.  Up to 30,000 Danes aged 50–90 with risk factors and symptoms compatible with HFpEF will then be invited for AI-assisted examinations, and among them, 5,000 individuals at high risk of HFpEF will undergo in-depth assessments of the cardiovascular and other relevant organ systems.

The project is supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation with a grant of DKK 473 million.
