The KidMED-CKM consortium is a collaborative research initiative focused on improving understanding of chronic kidney disease and its relationship with cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.
The ultimate aim is to establish a foundation for earlier diagnosis and more precise treatment approaches for chronic kidney disease.
While the kidney has traditionally been viewed mainly as a target of damage caused by diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, emerging evidence suggests that it also influences their development and progression.
Supported by a grant of DKK 200 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the consortium aims to generate new knowledge about the role of the kidney in this broader network of diseases and improve understanding of why kidney disease develops differently in different individuals.
KidMED-CKM is coordinated by Tobias Huber, Director of the III Department of Medicine at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), which serves as the lead institution for the consortium. The initiative brings together complementary expertise from UKE, Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital, and RWTH Aachen University and University Hospital RWTH Aachen.
