To support excellent education in science and improve the recruitment and retention rates, the Novo Nordisk Center for University Science Education (USE) was established in 2025 at the University of Copenhagen with satellites at Aarhus University and the University of Southern Denmark.

The overall vision is to build an international stronghold for science education research and development.

USE will underpin education quality and provide strong science graduates through professional development of teaching faculty, upgrading of courses and capacity building of discipline-based science education research. The centre will contribute to a culture of research-based improvements, where innovation of engaging and inclusive teaching is in focus.

USE will collaborate with leading international environments to share state-of-the-art knowledge about curriculum design, teaching methodologies and learning strategies. The long-term goal is that more than 2,000 teachers and 15,000 students will benefit from research-informed teaching practices and a dynamic science education ecosystem.

The Foundation has awarded up to DKK 125 million for the USE centre over a five-year period.
