Based on ideas from Communities of Practice, the echo network experiments with a new model for activating a community of individuals and organisations in the development and implementation of sustainable solutions to global challenges in the context of low- and middle-income economies. The network engages more than 2000 dedicated people globally and collaborates with researchers, policymakers, businesses, NGOs, and communities to catalyse collaborative solutions in India for pressing sustainability challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, food insecurity, and public health issues.

The echo network receives funding from numerous sources. This grant, administered by the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences, focuses on the research part of the program through 11 PhD projects executed at Indian academic institutions. The research activities are grouped in three overarching themes, viz. ‘Clean, Healthy Cities’, ‘Rural Livelihoods’ and ‘Ecosystem Stewardship’. The PhD Fellows will have research stays at Danish universities and ATV will work with the Fellows to engage stakeholders in Denmark. As such, the project contributes to strengthening the Indo-Danish Green Strategic Partnership by adding a comprehensive research and educational component focusing on sustainable development.
