Professor Juleen R. Zierath, renowned for her pioneering research on the benefits of physical activity for diabetes, has been awarded the 2024 Diabetes Prize for Excellence. Her groundbreaking studies have revealed how exercise influences muscle function, insulin resistance, and metabolism, offering hope for improved treatment of type 2 diabetes. Zierath’s findings include the positive impact of regular exercise on glucose uptake and metabolic health. The award, given by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, includes DKK 6 million to further her research.
