Every year Denmark invests billions of kroner in health. New and more knowledge on how leadership can create better results for citizens will contribute to improving the returns on society’s investment in the health sector.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation is therefore awarding DKK 15 million for a 5-year professorship programme in leadership in the healthcare system based at the new Crown Prince Frederik Center for Public Leadership at Aarhus University.
“In awarding the grant, we aim to advance research on leadership in the health sector to strengthen the healthcare system by practically applying the research-based knowledge obtained. The new professorship programme will also establish a framework for an active research community for both established researchers and young, talented ones,” says Dagnia Looms, Head of Strategic Awards, Novo Nordisk Foundation.
CENTER TO BE INAUGURATED TO MARK THE CROWN PRINCE’S 50TH BIRTHDAY
“It is extremely positive that the Novo Nordisk Foundation has generously decided to award DKK 15 million for a professorship programme in leadership in the health sector. This provides researchers an outstanding opportunity to strengthen and further develop leadership in the health sector,” says Brian Bech Nielsen, Rector, Aarhus University.
Among other things, the professorship will collaborate with the new interdisciplinary Crown Prince Frederik Center for Public Leadership at Aarhus University’s Department of Political Science, which ranks as one of the world’s best departments within research in public administration, says the Rector.
In addition to the professorship, the Foundation grant – with DKK 3.1 million provided by Aarhus University – will fund: three postdoctoral fellow or assistant professor research positions; two PhD students; a secretariat function; research databases; field studies; data collection; and international exchanges for researchers.
The Center officially opens on 23 May, and the Crown Prince will personally inaugurate the Center to mark his 50th birthday.
The new Center Director is Lotte Bøgh Andersen, Professor, Aarhus University, who was appointed this year as the sole representative of the universities in Denmark on the government’s leadership commission.
In addition to providing research-based knowledge on public leadership in the health sector, the professorship programme will also carry out teaching at a high international level. The programme will also contribute to improving the scientific knowledge on the health sector through broad outreach activities.
