Challenge programme 2025

For the application round of 2025, the Challenge Programme sought to support outstanding research collaborations working within one of four selected themes. Up to DKK 480 million was awarded for grants of DKK 30-60 million each.

Theme 1: Heterogeneity in biomanufacturing

The specific challenge of this theme is to understand the impact of heterogeneity in biomanufacturing and develop novel approaches for detection, control, and mitigation throughout both upstream and downstream processing.

Theme 2: Ectopic fat and cardiometabolic disease

The specific challenge of this theme is to understand causal factors in the development and consequences of ectopic fat accumulation, identifying novel targets and precision medicine strategies in disease prevention and treatment with a human-centric point of departure.

Theme 3: Interactions of infectious disease & CMD

The specific challenge of this theme is to understand the interactions between infectious diseases and cardiometabolic diseases and inform how to best reduce the morbidity and mortality of people and populations exposed to both types of conditions.

Theme 4: The NNF Grand AI Challenge

The specific challenge of this theme is to develop and use artificial intelligence (AI) to catalyse breakthroughs in science, technology, sustainability, and healthcare. The new Gefion supercomputer dedicated to AI may serve as a power full compute platform to tackle this challenge.
