Jannik Hilsted Appointed as Chief Medical Officer and Head of Steno Grants

Jannik Hilsted will take responsibility for the collaboration between the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Capital Region of Denmark on establishing the new Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen.

Jannik Hilsted, specialist physician, is to become Chief Medical Officer and Head of Steno Grants at the Novo Nordisk Foundation effective 1 November 2015.

Jannik Hilsted is leaving a position at Rigshospitalet – Copenhagen University Hospital, where he has been Chief Medical Officer since 2003.

Jannik Hilsted will take responsibility for the collaboration between the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Capital Region of Denmark on establishing the new Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen to which, in an announcement last week, the Novo Nordisk Foundation awarded a grant of up to DKK 2.8 billion (€375 million).

“I consider this an outstanding opportunity to boost the quality of diabetes treatment in Denmark and strengthen clinical research in the field for the benefit of the people with diabetes,” says Jannik Hilsted.

Jannik Hilsted is highly respected in Denmark’s health care system. He was educated as a specialist physician in internal medicine and medical endocrinology and served as an administrative chief physician and subsequently Chief Medical Officer at Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre before joining Rigshospitalet.

Jannik Hilsted’s research fields are internal medicine and endocrinology, and especially diabetic neuropathy. He has co-authored more than 200 international publications within endocrinology and has authored chapters in textbooks on endocrinology. He also has considerable experience in both training researchers and in treating patients.

In addition, Jannik Hilsted has experience from participating in numerous committees, memberships of working groups and scientific councils under the Capital Region of Denmark and serving on several boards of directors.
