Novo Nordisk Foundation Appoints Deputy CEO

Niels Peder Nielsen has been appointed Deputy CEO of the Novo Nordisk Foundation. He starts in the newly established position on 1 August 2018.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation has appointed 52-year-old Niels Peder Nielsen, Senior Partner at Bain & Company, as Deputy CEO.

Together, Niels Peder Nielsen and CEO Birgitte Nauntofte will comprise the Foundation’s Executive Management.

Niels Peder Nielsen has more than 25 years of global management consulting experience and has worked for leading global clients across several industries on issues such as strategy, capital management, M&A, governance and organization.

Sten Scheibye, Chairman of the Board of the Novo Nordisk Foundation, says: ”Niels Peder Nielsen is a leading international expert. With his appointment, the Foundation is well positioned to realize its strategy of contributing to society and its commercial and grant-awarding purposes.”

ABOUT THE NOVO NORDISK FOUNDATION

The Novo Nordisk Foundation is an independent Danish foundation with corporate interests. It has two purposes:

  1. to provide a stable basis for the commercial and research activities of the companies in the Novo Group: the Novo Nordisk Foundation, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Novo Holdings A/S, is the controlling shareholder of Novo Nordisk A/S and Novozymes A/S; and
  2. to support scientific, humanitarian and social causes: in 2017, the Foundation awarded grants totalling DKK 5.8 billion, primarily for research, education and innovation within biomedicine and biotechnology at universities and hospitals in Denmark and the other Nordic countries as well as diabetes treatment and prevention and humanitarian and social purposes.
