Novo Nordisk Foundation Awards Grant for Science Camps

Five universities will act as host institutions for the ScienceCamps in 2017. More than 300 young people and 150 volunteers are expected to participate.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded a grant of DKK 75,000 to the Youth Science Association of Denmark for holding six ScienceCamps during summer 2017.

The ScienceCamps aim to stimulate interest, commitment, curiosity and in-depth study within the natural sciences. During the summer, the most talented and interested students, primarily from upper-secondary schools, will have the opportunity to collaborate with university students and be taught by university researchers.

The Youth Science Association of Denmark has arranged annual ScienceCamps since 2002. Five universities will act as host institutions for the ScienceCamps in 2017. More than 300 young people and 150 volunteers are expected to participate.

Each of the six ScienceCamps lasts 1 week and will be held on different dates during the summer: Software Developer Camp, 3–11 July; Physics Camp, 16–22 July; Biotech Camp, Mathematics Camp and Game Developer Camp, 22–29 July; and Chemistry Camp, 29 July–5 August.

Between 44 and 72 young people, primarily from upper-secondary schools, can participate in each ScienceCamp, with final-year lower-secondary school students also taking part depending on the overall numbers. Participants are selected based on a personal application, with the focus on commitment and interest.
