Novo Nordisk Foundation Increases Support of Young Scientists

The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded a grant of DKK 9 million for the competition Young Scientists: Denmark’s largest science talent competition for children and adolescents. In this, students in primary and lower-secondary schools and in upper-secondary schools compete using inventiveness and good ideas.

The competition seeks to stimulate and increase the interest in the natural sciences, technology and innovation among children and adolescents in Denmark.

Since 2011, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling DKK 15 million for the competition.

In addition, the Foundation has awarded a grant of DKK 1 million for a new series of TV programmes produced by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR). The series of 5 programmes will follow a group of girls and boys participating in Young Scientists 2015 from the time they start preparing at school through possible selection for the semifinals and until the finals in Copenhagen. The series is also following senior participants at a camp preparing for the finals.

The series targets young viewers on the DR ULTRA channel.
