Future of Precision Medicine Symposium 2023

As part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s precision medicine initiatives, the two-day Future of Preci-sion Medicine Symposium 2023 featured lectures and panel discussions on within a broad array – from major innovations in precision diabetes medicine to cutting-edge research through clinical imple-mentation.

The discovery of insulin 100 years ago was a true breakthrough and lifesaver in the treatment of peo-ple with diabetes. However, despite being around for a century, insulin and other means of treatment, often deployed in a one-size-fits-all manner, still fail to take most people to a level of control that nor-malizes morbidity and mortality. Precision medicine, the tailoring of disease prevention and treatment strategies based on an individual’s genetics and other biomarkers, lifestyle and environment, aims at doing just that, by helping optimise medical decisions.

The symposium also celebrated the winner of the EFSD and Novo Nordisk Foundation Precision Diabe-tes Medicine Award. The award honours innovative research in both clinical and basic science that is likely to minimise the future burden of diabetes and other chronic diseases.
