Partnership with the Danish Government on nature restoration and more sustainable agricultural production

Project data

Year
2024
Grant amount
DKK 10 billion

In a historic agreement with the Danish Government, the Foundation has committed to allocating up to DKK 10 billion for converting land in Denmark to enable space for more nature and biodiversity and for agricultural production based on modern technologies. The funding will be given over a 10-year period and is the largest single commitment that the Foundation has ever made.

The agreement has been made in conjunction with the Green Tripartite deal between the Government and leading agricultural and environmental organisations, which marks a new approach to land use. The ambition is to make Denmark a leading country in sustainable land management that restores and protects nature for the benefit of future generations.

A key element of the initiative is to establish large, coherent areas of woodland in order to reduce the impact of intensive farming, improve the quality of water in our waterways and coastal areas and boost biodiversity. At the same time, focus will be on advancing scientific research and development initiatives that contribute to better understanding the interaction between agriculture and nature, with the aim of making our agricultural production more sustainable and land efficient.

The specific details concerning the framework for the Foundation’s funding and how it is going to be implemented will be determined in dialogue with the Government.
