The Novo Nordisk Foundation is announcing the first annual call for nominations for the new European Novo Nordisk Prize.

The Prize is awarded to an active scientist who has provided outstanding research or technological contributions that have advanced our understanding of human health and diseases, the prevention of diseases, or the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

The Prize is awarded for a predominantly European contribution.

Awardees must have made an important contribution to European biomedical science. They must have a current position and an active research programme at a public or non-profit research institution in a European country. However, awardees can have any nationality as long as their contribution has been in Europe.

The Novo Nordisk Prize is accompanied by DKK 5 million – of which DKK 4.5 million is for the awardee’s research and DKK 0.5 million is a personal award. In addition, the Novo Nordisk Foundation is awarding DKK 0.5 million for hosting an international symposium within the awardee’s field of research.

The Novo Nordisk Prize will be awarded by a prize committee that will select awardees based on their scientific achievements after a confidential nomination and review process.

With this call for nominations, the committee seeks the assistance of the scientific community in identifying the worthiest candidates for the Prize. Please support the further establishment of the new European Novo Nordisk Prize by nominating an active scientist that has provided outstanding international contributions to advance medical science for the benefit of people’s lives.

The deadline for nominations is 19 June 2020. Nominate a candidate here.

The Novo Nordisk Prize was first conferred in 1963. Until now, the Prize has been awarded for a predominantly Danish contribution and was accompanied by DKK 3 million. From 2021, the size of the Prize is being increased to DKK 5 million.
