“The Foundation has now entered into a more operational phase of its development, and consequently it is no longer necessary for us to have a Deputy CEO. Niels Peder Nielsen and I have discussed this, and as we haven’t been able to define a new role for him in the Foundation, we have agreed that he leaves us by the end of October,” says Lars Rebien Sørensen, Chairman of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
The change is a continuation of an organizational process that was implemented to realize the Foundation’s 2019-2023 strategy, and where Niels Peder Nielsen was appointed to strengthen the Foundation’s management during its growth phase.
“Within the last two years, the Novo Nordisk Foundation has broadened its areas of activity, and the organization has almost doubled in size. This has called for a strengthening of the processes in the Foundation, and Niels Peder Nielsen has made a great contribution towards this. I would like to thank him for that,” Lars Rebien Sørensen notes.
Before joining the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Niels Peder Nielsen was senior partner with Bain & Company. Here he served as advisor to the Foundation, assisting it with the development of its most recent strategy. He has more than 25 years of experience in management consulting.
“I have valued being given the opportunity to influence the strategy of the Novo Nordisk Foundation over the last eight years, initially as advisor and in the last two years as part of the Executive Management working in close collaboration with Birgitte Nauntofte. With the establishment of new grant areas and a strengthened organization as well as processes, the Foundation is now well on its way to realizing its strategy for 2023. This also means that my role is changing, and we have decided that it is time for me to leave the Foundation,” says Niels Peder Nielsen.
