Novo Nordisk Foundation increases grants for conferences, symposia and workshops

The objective of the grants is to provide opportunities for both leading and younger researchers to meet and present the newest research results and methods within their fields.

Sharing insights and new discoveries is essential for research. The Novo Nordisk Foundation has therefore established a new grant programme for organizing conferences, symposia and workshops to promote knowledge-sharing and to kick-start networking activities for research and innovation.

Applications may be submitted for grants covering medium-sized events, typically with a duration of 2–3 days. These events can be located at hospitals and universities. Typical examples of supported events are scientific conferences, innovation events organized by researchers or student-organized events, all aiming to promote knowledge-sharing and networking-promoting activities.

Events applied for under the current application round must be held in Denmark between summer 2019 and summer 2020. The main applicant must reside in Denmark and be either a researcher at a high international level or a representative of a student organization. The main applicant must also be the lead organizer for the conference, symposium or workshop.

Applications may be submitted for grants for conferences, symposia or other events within the scientific fields the Foundation generally supports:

  • research on biomedicine and health;
  • the life sciences and industrial applications that promote sustainability;
  • natural and technical science research and interdisciplinarity;
  • art and art history research; and
  • innovation.

To be eligible for a grant, a conference, symposium or workshop must feature internationally prominent speakers. The Foundation especially emphasizes giving young researchers and students opportunities to present their research.

DKK 7.5 million is available annually for funding conferences, symposia and workshops. The Foundation will issue biannual calls for applications.

The current deadline for applications is 15 November 2018.
