Novo Nordisk Foundation Announces New Board Members

The Board of the Novo Nordisk Foundation has four new members and a new Vice Chair.

Marianne Philip, partner and Chair of the Board of Kromann Reumert, a leading law firm in Denmark, has been elected to the Board of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

Marianne Philip specializes in company law and foundation law and is one of Denmark’s most experienced lawyers in these fields. She has in-depth experience in the financial and life-science sectors and has participated in several landmark corporate transactions in these areas. Marianne Philip is replacing Jørgen Boe, who has served on the Board since 2000. Steen Riisgaard, who joined the Board in 2013, succeeds Jørgen Boe as Vice Chair.

In addition, three new employee representatives have been elected to the Board: Anne Marie Kverneland, laboratory technician and shop steward at Novo Nordisk A/S; Karen L. Lauritsen, IT architecture specialist at Novo Nordisk A/S; and Lars Bo Køppler, food technician and shop steward at Novozymes A/S.

These three new members succeed Ulla Morin and Søren Thuesen Pedersen, who both joined the Board of the Foundation in 2002, and Stig Strøbæk, who has served on the Board since 1998.

Sten Scheibye, Chair of the Board of the Foundation, says: “Marianne Philip brings to the Board valuable legal skills and experience in the acquisition and sale of companies, extensive knowledge on corporate governance and in-depth experience from other board directorships. We look forward to working with Marianne. I also want to thank Jørgen Boe for many years of excellent service on the Board. The development during the past 14 years has been remarkable, and Jørgen has contributed throughout this period.”

“We also warmly welcome Anne Marie Kverneland, Karen L. Lauritsen and Lars Bo Køppler. We look forward to working with these new colleagues. I also want to profoundly thank the three departing employee representatives for their committed efforts and important contributions to the work of the Board over many years,” adds Sten Scheibye.

Since 2007, the Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded more than DKK 5 billion (€670 million) in grants – primarily to support research in biomedicine and biotechnology in Denmark and the other Nordic countries.
