Danmarks Indsamling is a nationwide telethon and fundraiser supported by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) and 12 of Denmark’s largest humanitarian organizations that benefits low- and middle-income countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The theme for 2020 is Children on the Run. Among other things, the money raised will benefit children who need help on the way to their destination and once they arrive. The money raised will also help children who get the opportunity to return to their families or their original country and to ensure that fleeing and migrating to the streets of major cities will not be the way these children have to use to escape from their current situation.
“Never have so many refugees been on the run, and the United Nations estimates the number to be more than 70.8 million people. More than half are children younger than 18 years, and far too many of these children are unaccompanied. Children are easy victims of abuse, violence and disease – and they are mentally scarred by a precarious childhood. A life on the run is really not for children. Everyone really needs to support this important issue,” says Mulle Juul Korsholm, Press Officer, Danmarks Indsamling.
Hanna Line Jakobsen, Head of Social and Humanitarian Grants, Novo Nordisk Foundation, says:
“Children are our future, and it is important that we support them so that they can grow up in safe environments and become strong ambassadors that can influence the societies in which they live. It is therefore fantastic that all of Denmark is joining together to support children on the run. This fundraiser closely reflects the Foundation’s vision of contributing to improving people’s lives and the sustainability of society.”
The 12 organizations participating in Danmarks Indsamling 2020 are: DanChurchAid, SOS Children’s Villages, UNICEF Denmark, ActionAid Denmark, Save the Children Denmark, Danish Red Cross, Danish Refugee Council, Médecins Sans Frontières Denmark, Oxfam IBIS, Plan International Denmark, CARE Danmark and Danish People’s Aid. The organizations work to lift low- and middle-income countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America out of poverty and to promote the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Foundation also awarded DKK 2.5 million to Danmarks Indsamling in 2018 and 2019. Since 2007, Danmarks Indsamling has raised more than DKK 1 billion for humanitarian purposes.
