In 2017, the Novo Nordisk Foundation established an ambitious Research Leader Programme targeting the best and most talented research leaders at various career stages at universities, hospitals, and other research institutions in Denmark and the rest of the Nordic region.
The Foundation has allocated a total of DKK 2.4 billion (€322 million) for the programme, with individual grants of up to DKK 10 million awarded over five years. The programme supports both younger talents in the early-career stage and skilled research leaders mid-career, as well as established professors at a high international level.
With the grants, the researchers carry out ambitious projects on a wide range of topics within medical science, biotechnology, and other areas. Knowledge from these projects can contribute to progress in health, disease, and climate- and environment-friendly production methods.
The grants are awarded on the basis of applications submitted to the Foundation in open competition.
