Challenge Programme 2019

For the application round of 2019, the Challenge Programme sought to support outstanding research collaborations working within one of three selected themes. Up to DKK 360 million was awarded for grants of up to DKK 60 million each.

Theme 1: How Dietary Factors Affect the Human Microbiome

The specific challenge of this theme is focused on understanding how our diet affect the human gut microbiome and how we can improve the gut microbiome through dietary modifications, such as designer foods, dietary additives and beneficial microbes, to benefit human health.

Theme 2: Modern Plant Science – Towards a Sustainable World

The specific challenge of this theme is focused on exploring and exploiting plant science and biotechnology to reduce malnutrition and improve human health through sustainable agriculture.

Theme 3: Emerging infectious diseases

The specific challenge of this theme is focused on understanding the biology of infectious pathogens, including bacteria, virus, fungi and protozoans, to predict and prevent emerging and re-emerging diseases in humans.
